There are several scholarships available only to Honors students. They include:
 
Grant Molett Scholarship
 
  One awarded each year
Award is $1,500 ($750 fall, $750 spring)
3.5 GPA or better
Full-time sophomore, junior, or senior
Active in Honors Program
Awarded in fall only.
 
Keith Lindley Scholarship
 
  Four awarded each year
Award is $1,000 ($500 fall, $500 spring)
3.2 GPA or better
Full-time sophomore, junior, or senior
Major: Engineering or Science
Awarded in fall only.
 
Honors Alumni Scholarship
 
  Award is $500 ($250 fall, $250 spring)
3.2 GPA or better
Full-time sophomore, junior, or senior
Write a letter
Awarded in fall only.
 
Oran Robert Perry Burke Memorial Scholarship
 
  Five awards at $1,000 each
3.2 GPA or better
Full-time sophomore, junior, or senior
Financial need

Raymond Bourque Sr. Memorial Scholarship
 
  Award is $500 ($250 fall, $250 spring)

Gordon Rickels Endowed Honors Scholarship
 
  One time award of $800
3.0 GPA (Freshmen) and 3.2 GPA (Others)
Full-time Entering Freshmen, Sophmore, Junior or Senior
Active Member in the Honors Program
Humanities Major: English, History, Philosophy, Modern Language
Demonstrate a love of music by continuing studies, performance, and/or composition
 
Jay C. Gremillion Scholarship
 
  Award is $2500 ($625 per semester for four semesters)

Honors Baccalaureate Degree
 
  In order to qualify for an Honors baccalaureate degree, a student must satisfy all normal residence, quantitative, and college requirements for a baccalaureate degree, and, in addition, must satisfy the following special requirements:
  • Candidates must have a minimal cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5.
  • Candidates must complete at least twelve semester hours of departmental Honors courses with an average grade of B (3.0) or better.
  • Candidates must complete at least two courses from among HONR 216, HONR 221, HONR 375, and HONR 385 with an average grade of B (3.0) or better.
    1. Transfer students or students with advanced placement credit may apply to the Director of the University Honors Program for an evaluation of their previous work or credit relative to the above requirements.
    2. Under special circumstances, students of truly exceptional ability may have certain of the above requirements waived by unanimous consent of the Director of Honors, the student's Dean, and the Academic Vice-President.
  • Candidates must complete HONR 497 -- Thesis Preparation, and at least four hours credit of HONR 499 -- Honors Thesis.
  • Candidates must file a formal application for the Honors degree with both their academic dean and the Director of Honors before the deadline listed in the University Calendar.
  • Candidates must pass an oral examination over the thesis project, to be conducted by the thesis committee.
 
Honors Program Requirements
  • Maintain a miniumum cumulative GPA of 3.0 as a freshman, 3.2 afterwards.
  • Take at least one Honors class (not counting seminar or worshop) each academic year until you have earned twelve (12) such credits.
  • Take Honors seminar EVERY semester until graduation unless you have an irreconcilable class conflict. Read the Honors book, whether or not you are registered in seminar.
  • Have your schedule approved in the Honors Office (Judice-Rickels 205) before each phone registration.
  • There is a $25.00 per year Honors Activity Fee charged to your University Account. ($15.00 for students entering the program in the spring.) If this is a problem, speak privately to the director.
  • Report any change of major, address, or telephone to the Honors Office. It is very important that you update your Honors Information Card each semester.
  • Those not complying with any of the above may appeal to the Director. Unless a waiver is granted, the student will be deleted from the program.
