Honors Alumni Present Papers at Prestigious Conference
Tue, 07/19/2016 - 8:52amHillary Carlisle (2014), an Honors graduate in Spanish, and Esteban Quispe (2017), a senior major in Spanish and a Ronald McNair Scholar, will both present research at the 2016 conference of the Asociación Internacional de Literatura y Cultura Femenina Hispánica, to be held this November in Houston. Carlisle's work, an extension of one of her Honors projects at UL Lafayette, examines Frida Kahlo's 1935 painting “Unos cuantos piquetitos” and its representation of gender and Mexican identity. Quispe's paper, a part of his larger project on Peruvian poet César Moro, examines the construction of gender identity in the poetry collection La Tortuga Ecuestre (written 1938 in Mexico, published 1957 in Peru) and other closely related works from the same time period.
